The Sound of ECG Web Sites

Hello action potential, my old friend
I've come to study you again
Because the Nernst Equation softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted
In my brain still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I worked alone
Resuscitation cubicles or the Ritz-zone
'Neath the halo of a theatre lamp
I turned my back on the KPI clamp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash
Of a monitor light that split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand P waves, maybe more
People doing ECGs without thinking
People reading ECGs without meaning
People using terms that Einthoven never dared
And no one cared
To disturb the sound of silence

Fools said I, you do not know
ECGignorance like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might reach you
Share my doubts that I might teach you
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the walls of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the ECG Web site they bayed
And the monitor flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the words said, “The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls and tenement halls”
And whispered in the sounds of silence
